Frequently asked Questions

  1. What is relationship therapy and how can it help my relationship?
Relationship therapy helps couples strengthen their connection, work through conflict, and gain insight into how each partner functions within the relationship — whether things feel strained or you simply want to grow closer.

  2. Do you offer individual therapy as well as couples counselling?
Yes. Alongside relationship therapy, individual counselling is available for anyone navigating personal challenges, self-awareness work, or emotional wellbeing.

  3. What therapeutic approaches and methods do you use?
Sessions draw on an integrative mix of evidence-based modalities, including CBT, Mindfulness, ACT, Schema Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, EMDR, PACT, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, the Gottman Method, and the Ackerman Relational Approach — tailored to each client's needs.

  4. What are your qualifications and experience?
Brenton Surgenor (MCouns, MSc, MA, BPhEd) has more than two decades of experience as an educator, counsellor, coach, and psychotherapist, including a background as a university lecturer and researcher in wellbeing.

Yes — I run workshops designed for couples and individuals who want to improve their relationships. These workshops have been presented at Soho House, AIA Vitality Hub, and private companies.

Yes. Sessions take place in a safe, supportive, and confidential environment built on empathy, respect, and trust, with no judgment attached to whatever you're working through.

  9. Who is counselling for — do I need to be "in crisis" to start?
No. Counselling is for anyone who has ever felt lost, confused, or simply wants to better understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviour — not just those facing a major crisis.

Yes. The practice is inclusive by design, working with individuals, couples, and groups across all backgrounds, identities, and relationship structures.
